# Connect VS Code and GitHub Copilot to RobinReach (MCP Setup)

> To connect VS Code to RobinReach, open the Command Palette, run MCP: Add Server, choose HTTP, paste your RobinReach URL with your API key and name it robinreach. GitHub Copilot's agent can then use RobinReach's 77 tools to write, schedule and publish posts on 13 networks, read analytics and answer comments from your editor. Choose Global when asked so it works in every workspace. It is included on the Bloom, Thrive and Scale plans.

Canonical: https://robinreach.com/ai/integrations/vs-code
App: VS Code, by Microsoft (https://code.visualstudio.com)
Where you use it: Code editor
Sign in: API key. Setup time: 2 minutes. RobinReach plan: Bloom, Thrive and Scale.

## What you need

In VS Code:
- VS Code with GitHub Copilot.
- Your API key from the Integrations page in RobinReach.

In RobinReach:
- The Bloom, Thrive and Scale plan (Bloom, $24 a month).
- An API key from the Integrations page (the account key reaches every brand; a brand key reaches one).

## Setup

### 1. Copy your connection URL

Replace **YOUR_API_KEY** with the key from the Integrations page in RobinReach.

```
https://robinreach.com/mcp/v1/messages?api_key=YOUR_API_KEY
```

### 2. Add the server

Open the Command Palette (**Cmd** or **Ctrl** + **Shift** + **P**), run **MCP: Add Server**, choose **HTTP**, paste the URL and name it **robinreach**. Pick **Global** to use it in every workspace.

### 3. Ask Copilot

Open the Chat view, let the agent use tools and ask it to list your RobinReach brands.

Check it works: In the Chat view, ask the agent: "List my RobinReach brands".

## Things to ask VS Code

- Turn the notes in launch.md into a LinkedIn post and an X post, scheduled for Monday morning.
- What is scheduled on our calendar this week?
- Write alt text for the images attached to next week's Instagram posts.
- Draft a Mastodon post about the bug we fixed today.

## Troubleshooting

**Copilot does not use RobinReach.** Open Chat, then Customizations, then Tools, and check the robinreach tools are switched on for the session.

**The server will not start.** Check the URL includes your current API key. Creating a new key on the Integrations page replaces the old one.

**It only works in one workspace.** It was saved to the workspace. Add it again and pick Global.

## Questions

### Do I need GitHub Copilot?

Yes. RobinReach's tools are used by Copilot's agent in the Chat view.

### Where does VS Code save the server?

With Global, in your personal Copilot config at ~/.copilot/mcp-config.json, so every workspace has it.

### Can I connect just one brand?

Yes. Use that brand's key from its Integrations page.

### Does it need Node.js?

No. VS Code connects to the URL over HTTP directly.

### Which plans include it?

On RobinReach, the Bloom, Thrive and Scale plans. On GitHub, a Copilot plan.
